We are Arborealis, the team playing at Stanford!
Anyone is welcome, all ages, all genders, beginner or not, all equipment and fun is provided
for free!
The discord and email will be the most up to date, but NO PRACTICE until the weekend of the 20th (Arizona tournament the weekend before). Will update once practice times are up for the winter quarter, enjoy your holidays!
Once we're back, you are welcome to drop by our location anytime, and stay for however long you want. Bring water and running shoes, we'll teach you the rest!
So, how do you even play?
Qwiks (unarmed runners): Bring a ball to the goal.
Enforcers (armed with foam weapons) escort Qwiks.
Tag people with foam, but beware, they can get back up after
some time!
Work with your team, control the field, in a game of wit and skill!
To be completed, but we essentially create our own equipment.
Safety is important, so we start with a bamboo, fiberglass, or carbon fiber core, as these tend to be durable and not as dangerous as other materials when shattering or breaking.
To deal with potential breaks, we encase the whole core in packing or duct tape, so any splinters are contained.
We then attach 1 inch/2.5 cm thick pool noodle or pipe insulation, so you can't feel core when getting hit.
We make foam tips about 1.5 - 2 inches / 4 - 5 cm deep so players won't get stabbed through like the knights of old, and 2.75 inches / 7cm in diameter so eyeballs don't get poked out. Lastly, we create pommels 2 inches / 5 cm in diameter so there's no risk of getting stabbed through on the other side.
There are size restrictions shown below:
Of course, there are more rules, ways to make building faster, optimizing weight, but you should
join us to find out
Have equipment and friends? The summary for hitting is first contact wins (even a graze). Extremely hard hits are discouraged, as they wear down the foam and could leave a little sting.
The only disqualified targets are head, neck (for safety), and hand on a weapon (so you can block as if you had protective gloves, or you can use real ones heh). Here is an unofficial WIP ruleset!
In California, there are players in San Francisco, Berkeley, San Diego, LA, and Irvine.
There are other teams around the US, Europe, Australia, Costa Rica, and more! Take a look on the map
There are seasonal US Tournaments, in Phoenix, Denver, Portland, and Berkeley, not to mention many more outside the US.
If you'd like to play on Arborealis, let us know!
